Promising Footballer Aiming to Represent his Country

A PROMISING young footballer is preparing for a shot at the big time after being named among the finest college players in the region.
Peter Bulmer, 17, of Darlington, has been selected for the North-East Colleges squad and, if successful, could go on to represent his country.
The Darlington College sport science student made the regional 16-man squad after impressing at trials held at Gateshead College.
And he will shortly join his new team-mates for a match against the North-West colleges, with the best sixteen from that game in Manchester making up a combined northern side.
There will then be a North v South clash, before the final English college representative team is named.
Peter, who also plays as a left-sided midfielder for Norton & Stockton Ancients, has been involved in the sport since the age of eight.
He said: “It was fantastic to be selected for the North-East squad, particularly as the standard of players at the trials was so high.
“It would be a dream to make it through to the English squad, but there’s a long way to go and I just have to keep working hard.”
Fellow Darlington College students Joshua Knox and Nathan Pitt narrowly missed out on the North-East squad, despite impressing selectors at the trials, and have pledged to return next year.
Paul Dalton, learning advisor in sport at the college, said: “Peter has done outstandingly well and everyone here at the sports development team is very proud of his efforts.
“I’m sure he will be a great ambassador for the college and Darlington as whole, and really do himself proud when he next plays.”
