Business First Responds to Economic Downturn

BUSINESSES looking for fresh ways to prosper during the economic downturn are being offered invaluable free training by one of the region’s leading colleges.

With the country in the grip of a recession, Darlington College’s Business First team is taking positive action in a bid to help both small and larger firms through troubled times.

The college has made a variety of training packages available and is encouraging businesses to come forward to see whether they are eligible for the free support.

The initiative ranges from offering a single short course to a wider programme of training in critical areas.

Companies with less than 250 employees could take advantage of assistance in marketing and customer services, business finance and accounts, IT skills and support, and leadership and management.

Larger firms could be able to put employees forward for nationally recognised qualifications at levels two, three or four.

Training for companies with more than 250 workers will include detailed insights into business improvement techniques, systems and processes, teamwork and communications, customer service and more.

The training is designed to boost businesses’ productivity and allow them to stay ahead of the competition.

The programmes are also fully flexible, with the option of being provided at the college or in the workplace.

Business First is at the forefront of efforts to help employers improve their workforces and achieve their strategic goals.

The dedicated training operation within the college was unveiled last year, with a team of experts committed to working alongside firms to allow them to flourish.

And the team’s role has taken on even greater significance recently, as companies seek innovative ways to survive the downturn.

Business First director Terry Fennell said: “We recognise that these are difficult times for many firms in our region, so we are delighted to be able to offer a host of free training packages that could make a genuine difference to them.

“We already work with many firms, across a range of industries, which recognise that staff development is at the heart of business success and it would be fantastic to forge relations with more companies to help them thrive in the future.”

Any firms interested in discovering whether they are eligible for free training can contact the college’s Business Advisors on (01325) 503282.
