Case Study: Engineering

Allerton Engineering’s apprentice platers and welders are gaining valuable experience from their apprenticeship, by using their skills to help construct some famous landmark fabrications.

Getting involved in projects that include working on the raker and back of bowl beams for the new Landsdown Road Rugby Stadium in Dublin, is all in a day’s work for the 9 apprentices.

After working closely with Darlington College for many years to develop employees training and skills, Don Lancaster, QA and Apprentice Training Manager at Allerton Engineering says that apprentices make up an essential part of their workforce and ensure that the companies continued sustainability is maintained. As a result the apprentices are taught the skills that they require by both Allerton Engineering and Darlington College.
Don goes on to say, “An apprenticeship is a good start to anyone’s career as it guarantees qualifications, skills and a trade that should enable them to earn a good living.”
“To keep up with the current and future specialist skills required for our industry, the continued training of apprentices is vital. It plays a very important role in ensuring that the manufacturing sector, and our business in particular, continues to have skills that are required in the future. With this in mind the company wants to see all of our apprentices achieve skills and encourage them in every way to do so.”
